Accepting Change

Updated: Jul 21, 2020

Change. Many of us cringe when we hear that word. When we get comfortable, it can be hard to adjust ourselves. We get so stuck in a routine, and when something like COVID-19 happens our brains completely forget how to function. Changes in age can really make you feel lesser than sometimes. Whether you‘re older turning a half century or a young person approaching adulthood, we can all agree that trial some times beset us. Career changes are also another point of stress for many. As a fellow young person, it’s hard to find a balance between doing what makes us happy, but also achieving financial stability. With changes happening so rapidly, what can a person do to keep up?

Many of us have heard the saying,“with age comes great responsibility.” As we’ve grown older, that saying proves truer and truer every year. When you’re just entering adulthood, you aren’t very equipped with the wisdom to deal with this new found responsibility. We have to actually pay bills, budget, go to work and not to mention our social life is also getting a facelift. Pretty much all of your friends from high school disappear and you get left in the dust. As time goes on you grow and learn how to cope with adulthood. Just when things are getting good and your children are grown, your parents start to need your help. It almost feels like you’re nineteen again, because you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed caring for aging parents. It’s the wonderful circle of life. Your outlook can make all the difference when coping. Your lifestyle plays a huge role, but keeping your mind positive, and relying on your loved ones is key.

Deciding my career path has been the most stressful thing in my life so far. I didn’t know what to do or how to make my passion a profitable career without making myself hate it. The pattern your parents set also plays a huge role in the way you view money and how to make it. For some, they set the bar high and it‘s tough to imitate that. Likewise, if the example wasn’t so great, you basically have to figure it out on your own. Either way, living in a genration full of instant success, the pressure is on to make your dreams come true. For me, I did a lot of different things. Some stuff I enjoyed for a season, and others for a lifetime. While the discovery process is agonizing, once you find your passion try your best not to compare yourself to anyone. Your journey is your own, and no one is going to do you like you. Don’t let social media, judgmental family members or so called ’friends’ stop your glow up.

I like to think of changes as chapters in the book of our lives. When you read a book, you’re eager to reveal what happens next and ultimately finish it. Seldom does a reader ever dread turning the page and starting a new chapter. In real life, the page is always turning and every year we start a new chapter. Unfortunately we cant stop the process, but if we adjust our outlook and view every new opportunity like turning the page we’ll find ourselves excited to start each new chapter.

In addition, how are you going to be proud of your growth if you don’t document the process? Pictures are a great way to do so. At every pivotal point, documenting the process either through visuals or words can make looking back at the past satisfying. There’s no better feeling then going through a photo album or journal and laughing at how you used to look and think. Experiencing a change is tough, but the growth that happens as a result is beautiful!

If there’s one thing to take away from this blog post, its to embrace change and document the process, so when you’re in a better position you can be satisfied with how far you’ve come!
